Arts - Maui Island Currents

ART MAUI
Every year for the past 24 years, there has been an Art Maui. All the work in the show is selected by a juror. This year's juror will be Archie Brennan. Last year, 810 pieces of art were entered by 388 artists of which 172 pieces from an equal number artists were selected and exhibited. The show was visited by 8,669 people. The State Foundation of Culture & the Arts purchased 9 pieces and collectors purchsed 38 more. Art Maui was founded by Maui artists as an annual showcase of a sample of the best art Maui County artists can produce. Richard Nelson's entry in the 2001 show, Source, was chosen for the Art Maui 2002 poster and is available on notecards at the show. The 2002 show is open to the Public from March 11 through April 7 at the Schaefer International Gallery of the Maui Arts and Cultural Center.
